Oscada is the eastern gateway to northern Michigan's snowmobile trail system. From here you can travel across the state to Traverse City or northward to the Upper Peninsula. The staging area is located on Grass Lake Road just south of River Road. In Foote site Village, six and a half miles west of the trailhead, riders will find food, beverages and fuel. There the trail divides and riders have the option of heading north via Rea Road across the AuSable River and connecting with the Alcona County trail System.




Whispering Winds has a reputation of walleye fishing. It is not uncommonn for walleye fishermen to find walleye 30 inches and weighing in up to 12 pounds. Fishermen can target walleye at the mouth of the pier early and late in the year, or by running cranks deep on the lake. If you are planning a trip to the Whispering Winds area for walleye fishing or any other type of fishing, make sure you stop by the local bait shops and spend some time talking with the locals and determine what lures are hot and what is being caught.




With more than 35,000 acres of unique Michigan hiking and cross country skiing trails in and around the Whispering Winds area, hikers, backpackers and skiers will see some of the state's most spectacular treasures. Here you will find the finest backpacking route on Michigan's East Coast. The hiking trail network encompasses seven small lakes and courses through rugged terrain with many hills topping 1,200 feet. On the trail area, visitors will find ponds, many marches and bogs and an abundance of birds and wildlife.

Whispering Winds Cabins are located on the western end of Lake Vermilion. Situated directly on the water and the grounds are level and well maintained.  


All cabins have sundecks, deck furniture, electricity, heat, hot and cold running water, showers, cooking ranges, refrigerators, dishes, cooking utensils, microwave ovens, cozy bedrooms, blankets, sheets and pillows. Weber grills, cribs, and high chairs are also available at no charge.


Bring your own food, soap, beach and personal towels life preservers to swim in, camera, binoculars, suntan lotion, bug dope, fishing tackle, and clothes for all types of weather.  


Lake Vermilion was carved out of bedrock by glaciers thousands of years ago and is one of the most scenic lakes in the world. It is 40 miles long, but has many bays, channels and islands. The lake is easily accessible by major highways and has no motor restrictions.Most visitors come to lake Vermilion to fish and relax amidst the area's great natural beauty.  


Angling can be good for northern pike, walleye, bluegill, crappie, perch, bullhead, smallmouth bass, and muskie.There is also a small, sandy swimming area, hiking, play structure, shuffleboard, and horseshoes.


Guests will find the lake is perfect for boating, skiing, tubing, and other outdoor recreational activities. Golf, tennis, a movie theatre, shopping, and fine dining are a short driving distance from the cabins.
